Sunan al-Darimi – سنن الدارمي – Hadith #61

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عُتَيْبَةَ ، عَنْ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُخَيْمِرَةَ ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ هَانِئٍ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ : جَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ" ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ وَلَيَالِيَهُنَّ لِلْمُسَافِرِ، وَيَوْمًا وَلَيْلَةً لِلْمُقِيمِ "، يَعْنِي : الْمَسْحَ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ
Muhammad ibn Yusuf informed us, Sufyan informed us, on the authority of Amr ibn Qays, on the authority of Al-Hakam ibn Utaiba, on the authority of Al-Qasim ibn Mukhaymarah, on the authority of Shurayh Ibn Hani, on the authority of Ali Ibn Abi Talib, may God be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, appointed three days and their nights for the traveler. And a day and a night for the resident,” meaning: wiping over the socks.
