أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي يَزِيدَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ" إِذَا سُئِلَ عَنْ الْأَمْرِ فَكَانَ فِي الْقُرْآنِ، أَخْبَرَ بِهِ، وَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِي الْقُرْآنِ وَكَانَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَخْبَرَ بِهِ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ، فَعَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، وَعُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ، قَالَ فِيهِ بِرَأْيِهِ "

Abdullah bin Muhammad told us, Ibn Uyaynah told us, on the authority of Ubayd Allah bin Abi Yazid, he said: Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with him, was He was asked about the matter and it was in the Qur’an, he was told about it, and if it was not in the Qur’an and it was on the authority of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, he was told about it. If not, then on the authority of Abu Bakr and Omar, may God be pleased with them. If not, then he said about it according to his opinion.”
