أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيل بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ ، قَالَ : كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ مَيْمُونُ بْنُ مِهْرَانَ :" إِيَّاكَ وَالْخُصُومَةَ وَالْجِدَالَ فِي الدِّينِ، وَلَا تُجَادِلَنَّ عَالِمًا، وَلَا جَاهِلًا، أَمَّا الْعَالِمُ، فَإِنَّهُ يَخْزَنُ عَنْكَ عِلْمَهُ، وَلَا يُبَالِي مَا صَنَعْتَ، وَأَمَّا الْجَاهِلُ، فَإِنَّهُ يُخَشِّنُ بِصَدْرِكَ وَلَا يُطِيعُكَ "

Saeed bin Amir told us, on the authority of Ismail bin Ibrahim, on the authority of Yunus, he said: Maymun bin Mihran wrote to me: “Beware of quarreling. And debate about religion, and do not argue with a scholar or an ignorant person. As for the scholar, he stores his knowledge from you and does not care what you have done. As for the ignorant person, For he is harsh towards you and does not obey you.”
