Ubayd Allah bin Abdul Majeed told us, Ibn Abi Dhib told us, on the authority of Al-Maqbari, on the authority of Abdullah bin Abi Qatada, on the authority of his father : The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, got up and delivered a speech, thanked God and praised Him, then he mentioned jihad and did not leave anything better than it except… Then a man stood up and said: O Messenger of God, have you seen someone who was killed in the cause of God? Will that atone for his sins? So the Messenger of God said. May God’s prayers and peace be upon him: “Yes, if he is killed, patient, seeking reward, advancing and not retreating, except for debt, then he will be taken away, as Gabriel claimed to me.”
