حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّلْتِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حِبَّانُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ ، وَعُقَيْلٍ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ :" خَيْرُ الأَصْحَابِ أَرْبَعَةٌ، وَخَيْرُ الْجُيُوشِ أَرْبَعَةُ آلَافٍ، وَخَيْرُ السَّرَايَا أَرْبَعُ مِائَةٍ، وَمَا بَلَغَ اثْنَا عَشَرَ أَلْفًا فَصَبَرُوا، وَصَدَقُوا فَغُلِبُوا مِنْ قِلَّةٍ "

Muhammad ibn al-Salt narrated to us, Hibban ibn Ali narrated to us, on the authority of Yunus, and Uqayl on the authority of Ibn Shihab, on the authority of Ubayd Allah ibn Abdullah, on the authority of Ibn Abbas said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “The best companions are four, the best armies are four thousand, and the best companies are four.” One hundred, and it did not reach twelve thousand, but they were patient and truthful, but were defeated by a small number.”
