Sunan al-Darimi – سنن الدارمي – Hadith #520

أَخْبَرَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ أَبِي الْمُثَنَّى ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " كَانَالْأَذَانُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى، وَالْإِقَامَةُ مَرَّةً، غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا قَالَ : قَدْ قَامَتْ الصَّلَاةُ، قَالَهَا مَرَّتَيْنِ : فَإِذَا سَمِعْنَا الْإِقَامَةَ، تَوَضَّأَ أَحَدُنَا وَخَرَجَ "
Sahl bin Hammad told us, Shu’bah told us, Abu Ja’far told us, on the authority of Muslim Abi Al-Muthanna, on the authority of Ibn Umar, that he said: “ During the time of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, the call to prayer was given two by two, and the iqama once, except that if he said: The prayer has begun, He said it twice: Then when we heard the Iqamah, one of us would perform ablution and go out.
