حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى ، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ هِلَالٍ ، عَنْ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنْ امْرَأَةٍ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ ، قَالَ : أَتَاهَا فَقَالَ : أَلَا تَرَيْنَ إِلَى مَا جَاءَ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَتْ : رُبَّ خَيْرٍ قَدْ أَتَانَا بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَمَا هُوَ؟ قَالَ : قَالَ لَنَا :" أَيَعْجِزُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ "؟ قَالَ : فَأَشْفَقْنَا أَنْ يُرِيدَنَا عَلَى أَمْرٍ نَعْجِزُ عَنْهُ، فَلَمْ نَرْجِعْ إِلَيْهِ شَيْئًا حَتَّى قَالَهَا ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَمَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ ( قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَد، اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ )؟ "

Ubayd Allah ibn Musa narrated to us, on the authority of Israel, on the authority of Mansour, on the authority of Hilal, on the authority of Rabi’ ibn Khathim, on the authority of Amr ibn Maimun, on the authority of Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Laila, on the authority of a woman from the Ansar, on the authority of Abu Ayyub, he said: He came to her and said: Do you not see what the Messenger brought with him? God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him. She said: A good Lord has been brought to us by the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him. So what is it? He said: He said to us: “Is any of you unable to recite a third of the Qur’an in one night?” He said: We were afraid that he would want us to do something that we were unable to do, so we did not return anything to him until he said it three times, then he said: “Can’t he?” Is one of you to recite (Say: He is God, the One, God, the Eternal)?
