أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ حُجَيَّةَ بْنَ عَدِيٍّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا وَسَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ، فَقَالَ : يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، الْبَقَرَةُ؟ قَالَ : عَنْ سَبْعَةٍ، قُلْتُ : الْقَرْنُ؟ قَالَ : لَا يَضُرُّكَ.
قَالَ : قُلْتُ : الْعَرَجُ؟ قَالَ : إِذَا بَلَغَتْ الْمَنْسَكَ.
ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْنَسْتَشْرِفَ الْعَيْنَ وَالْأُذُنَ "

Abu Al-Walid told us, Shu’bah told us, on the authority of Salamah bin Kuhail, he said: I heard Hajiya bin Adiy, he said: I heard Ali and a man asked him, He said: O Commander of the Faithful, Al-Baqarah? He said: About seven. I said: The century? He said: It will not harm you.
He said: I said: Al-Arj? He said: When the ritual has been completed.
Then he said: “The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, commanded us to look out with the eye and the ear.”
