  • Sunan al-Darimi – سنن الدارمي – Hadith #125

    أَخْبَرَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مِنْهَالٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا، أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ ، قَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُسْتَحَاضُ، أَفَأَتْرُكُ الصَّلَاةَ؟، قَالَ :" لَا، إِنَّمَا ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ، وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحِيضَةِ، فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتْ الْحَيْضَةُ، فَاتْرُكِي الصَّلَاةَ، فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ قَدْرُهَا، فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ وَتَوَضَّئِي وَصَلِّي "، قَالَ هِشَامٌ : فَكَانَ أَبِي يَقُولُ : تَغْتَسِلُ غُسْلَ الْأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ مَا يَكُونُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ، فَإِنَّهَا تَطَّهَّرُ وَتُصَلِّي
    Hajjaj bin Minhal told us, Hammad bin Salamah told us, on the authority of Hisham bin Urwa, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Aisha, may God be pleased with her, Fatima bint Abi Hubaysh said: O Messenger of God, I am a woman who is menstruating. Should I abandon prayer? He said: No, that is a race, not With menstruation. When the menstruation begins, stop praying. When its duration has passed, then wash off the blood, perform ablution, and pray. Hisham said: My father used to say: She should wash herself the first time and then what comes after that. She purifies herself and prays.

  • Sunan an-Nasa’i – سنن النسائي – Hadith #124

    أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ نَافِعِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنَّهُ خَرَجَ لِحَاجَتِهِ فَاتَّبَعَهُ الْمُغِيرَةُ بِإِدَاوَةٍ فِيهَا مَاءٌ فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى فَرَغَ مِنْ حَاجَتِهِ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ ‏.‏
    It was narrated from Al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went out to relieve himself, and Al-Mughirah followed him, (carrying) a vessel of water. He poured water for him when he had finished relieving himself, and he performed Wudu' and wiped over his Khuffs.

    حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، وَمَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلاَنَ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلاَبَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ بُجْدَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏"‏ إِنَّ الصَّعِيدَ الطَّيِّبَ طَهُورُ الْمُسْلِمِ وَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدِ الْمَاءَ عَشْرَ سِنِينَ فَإِذَا وَجَدَ الْمَاءَ فَلْيُمِسَّهُ بَشَرَتَهُ فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ خَيْرٌ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ وَقَالَ مَحْمُودٌ فِي حَدِيثِهِ ‏"‏ إِنَّ الصَّعِيدَ الطَّيِّبَ وَضُوءُ الْمُسْلِمِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو وَعِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى وَهَكَذَا رَوَى غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ عَنْ أَبِي قِلاَبَةَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ بُجْدَانَ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ ‏.‏ وَقَدْ رَوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ أَيُّوبُ عَنْ أَبِي قِلاَبَةَ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ بَنِي عَامِرٍ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ وَلَمْ يُسَمِّهِ ‏.‏ قَالَ وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ ‏.‏ وَهُوَ قَوْلُ عَامَّةِ الْفُقَهَاءِ أَنَّ الْجُنُبَ وَالْحَائِضَ إِذَا لَمْ يَجِدَا الْمَاءَ تَيَمَّمَا وَصَلَّيَا ‏.‏ وَيُرْوَى عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ أَنَّهُ كَانَ لاَ يَرَى التَّيَمُّمَ لِلْجُنُبِ وَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدِ الْمَاءَ ‏.‏ وَيُرْوَى عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ رَجَعَ عَنْ قَوْلِهِ فَقَالَ يَتَيَمَّمُ إِذَا لَمْ يَجِدِ الْمَاءَ ‏.‏ وَبِهِ يَقُولُ سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ وَمَالِكٌ وَالشَّافِعِيُّ وَأَحْمَدُ وَإِسْحَاقُ ‏.‏
    Abu Dharr narrated that : AlIah's Messenger said: "Pure clean earth is a purifier for the Muslim; even if he did not find water for ten years. Then if he finds water, then let him use it (for purification) on his skin. For, that is better."

    حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي الزُّهْرِيُّ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا، قَالَتْ : اسْتُحِيضَتْ أُمُّ حَبِيبَةَ بِنْتُ جَحْشٍ سَبْعَ سِنِينَ، وَهِيَ تَحْتَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ، فَاشْتَكَتْ ذَلِكَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ :" إِنَّهَا لَيْسَتْ بِحِيضَةٍ، إِنَّمَا هُوَ عِرْقٌ، فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتْ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلَاةَ، وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ، فَاغْتَسِلِي وَصَلِّي "، قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : فَكَانَتْ تَغْتَسِلُ لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ، ثُمَّ تُصَلِّي، قَالَتْ : وَكَانَتْ تَقْعُدُ فِي مِرْكَنٍ لِأُخْتِهَا زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ حَتَّى إِنَّ حُمْرَةَ الدَّمِ لَتَعْلُو الْمَاءَ
    Muhammad ibn Yusuf narrated to us, Al-Awza’i narrated to us, Al-Zuhri narrated to me, on the authority of Urwa, on the authority of Aisha, may God be pleased with her, who said: My mother underwent menstruation. Habiba bint Jahsh was seven years old, and she was the slave of Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf. She complained about this to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and he said The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, told her: “It is not menstruation, rather it is a vein, so when the menstruation comes, give up prayer, and then… She has come back, so wash and pray.” Aisha said: She used to wash for every prayer, then pray. She said: And she used to sit in a place for her sister. Zainab bint Jahsh, so red that the blood rose to the water.

  • Sunan an-Nasa’i – سنن النسائي – Hadith #123

    أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ خَشْرَمٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ، قَالَ خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم لِحَاجَتِهِ فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ تَلَقَّيْتُهُ بِإِدَاوَةٍ فَصَبَبْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ ثُمَّ غَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ لِيَغْسِلَ ذِرَاعَيْهِ فَضَاقَتْ بِهِ الْجُبَّةُ فَأَخْرَجَهُمَا مِنْ أَسْفَلِ الْجُبَّةِ فَغَسَلَهُمَا وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِنَا ‏.‏
    It was narrated that Al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah said: "The Prophet (ﷺ) went out to relieve himself, and when he came back, I met him with a vessel (of water). I poured some for him and he washed his hands, then he washed his face. Then he wanted to wash his forearms but his Jubbah was too tight, so he brought them out from beneath the Jubbah to wash them, and he wiped over his Khuffs, then he led us in prayer."

    حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ حُرَيْثٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ رُبَّمَا اغْتَسَلَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَاسْتَدْفَأَ بِي فَضَمَمْتُهُ إِلَىَّ وَلَمْ أَغْتَسِلْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ لَيْسَ بِإِسْنَادِهِ بَأْسٌ ‏.‏ وَهُوَ قَوْلُ غَيْرِ وَاحِدٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَالتَّابِعِينَ أَنَّ الرَّجُلَ إِذَا اغْتَسَلَ فَلاَ بَأْسَ بِأَنْ يَسْتَدْفِئَ بِامْرَأَتِهِ وَيَنَامَ مَعَهَا قَبْلَ أَنْ تَغْتَسِلَ الْمَرْأَةُ ‏.‏ وَبِهِ يَقُولُ سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ وَالشَّافِعِيُّ وَأَحْمَدُ وَإِسْحَاقُ ‏.‏
    Aishah narrated: "Sometimes the Prophet would perform Ghusl from Janabah then come to seek warmth from me, he would hold me and not perform Ghusl."

    أَخْبَرَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ الْمُسْتَحَاضَةِ فَأَخْبَرَنِي، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا : أَنَّ امْرَأَةً اسْتُحِيضَتْ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأُمِرَتْ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ : النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَهَا؟، قَالَ : لَا أُحَدِّثُكَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَيْئًا، قَالَ :" فَأُمِرَتْ أَنْ تُؤَخِّرَ الظُّهْرَ، وَتُعَجِّلَ الْعَصْرَ، وَتَغْتَسِلَ لَهُمَا غُسْلًا، وَتُؤَخِّرَ الْمَغْرِبَ، وَتُعَجِّلَ الْعِشَاءَ، وَتَغْتَسِلَ لَهُمَا غُسْلًا، وَتَغْتَسِلَ لِلصُّبْحِ غُسْلًا "
    Hashim bin Al-Qasim told us, Shu’bah told us, he said: I asked Abdul-Rahman bin Al-Qasim about the woman suffering from menstruation, and he told me, on the authority of his father, On the authority of Aisha, may God be pleased with her: A woman had her menstruation during the time of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and she was commanded. He said: I said to Abd al-Rahman: The Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, commanded her? He said: I will not tell you anything about the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him. He said: “So she was commanded to delay the noon prayer and hasten it.” afternoon, and you bathe once for them, and you delay sunset, and hasten evening, and you wash once for them, and you bathe once for the morning.”

  • Sunan an-Nasa’i – سنن النسائي – Hadith #122

    أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، – وَهُوَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ – عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي النَّضْرِ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ أَنَّهُ لاَ بَأْسَ بِهِ ‏.‏
    It was narrated from Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas, from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), with regard to wiping over the Khuffs; "There is nothing wrong with it."

    حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَتْ جَاءَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ بِنْتُ مِلْحَانَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يَسْتَحْيِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ فَهَلْ عَلَى الْمَرْأَةِ تَعْنِي غُسْلاً إِذَا هِيَ رَأَتْ فِي الْمَنَامِ مِثْلَ مَا يَرَى الرَّجُلُ قَالَ ‏
    "‏ نَعَمْ إِذَا هِيَ رَأَتِ الْمَاءَ فَلْتَغْتَسِلْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ قُلْتُ لَهَا فَضَحْتِ النِّسَاءَ يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ ‏.‏ وَهُوَ قَوْلُ عَامَّةِ الْفُقَهَاءِ أَنَّ الْمَرْأَةَ إِذَا رَأَتْ فِي الْمَنَامِ مِثْلَ مَا يَرَى الرَّجُلُ فَأَنْزَلَتْ أَنَّ عَلَيْهَا الْغُسْلَ ‏.‏ وَبِهِ يَقُولُ سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ وَالشَّافِعِيُّ ‏.‏ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ أُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ وَخَوْلَةَ وَعَائِشَةَ وَأَنَسٍ ‏.‏
    Umm Salamah narrated: Umm Sulaim bint Milhan came to the Prophet and she said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Indeed Allah is not embarrassed of the truth. So is it required of a woman – meaning Ghusl – when she sees in her sleep similar to what a man sees?' He replied: 'Yes. When she finds water (wetness), then she is perform Ghusl.'" Umm Salamah said: "I said to her: 'O Umm SuIaim! You have disgraced the women!'"

    أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاق ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا، قَالَتْ : إِنَّمَا هِيَ فُلَانَةُ، إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ" أَمَرَهَا بِالْغُسْلِ لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ، فَلَمَّا شَقَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهَا، أَمَرَهَا أَنْ تَجْمَعَ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ بِغُسْلٍ وَاحِدٍ، وَبَيْنَ الْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ بِغُسْلٍ وَاحِدٍ، وَتَغْتَسِلَ لِلْفَجْرِ "، قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد : النَّاسُ يَقُولُونَ : سَهْلَةُ بِنْتُ سُهَيْلٍ ، قَالَ يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ : سُهَيْلَةُ بِنْتُ سَهْلٍ
    Yazid bin Harun informed us, Muhammad bin Ishaq informed us, on the authority of Abdul Rahman bin Al-Qasim, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Aisha, may God be pleased with him. On her behalf, she said: She is so-and-so. The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, had ordered her to wash for every prayer. When that was difficult for her, He ordered her to combine the noon and afternoon prayers with one bath, and the sunset and the evening prayers with one bath, and to bathe until dawn,” said Abu Muhammad: People say: Sahila bint Suhail.
