  • Jami’ al-Tirmidhi – جامع الترمذي – Hadith #105

    حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ مُوسَى، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَتْ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أَشُدُّ ضَفْرَ رَأْسِي أَفَأَنْقُضُهُ لِغُسْلِ الْجَنَابَةِ قَالَ ‏"‏ لاَ إِنَّمَا يَكْفِيكِ أَنْ تَحْثِينَ عَلَى رَأْسِكِ ثَلاَثَ حَثَيَاتٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ ثُمَّ تُفِيضِينَ عَلَى سَائِرِ جَسَدِكِ الْمَاءَ فَتَطْهُرِينَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ أَوْ قَالَ ‏"‏ فَإِذَا أَنْتِ قَدْ تَطَهَّرْتِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ ‏.‏ وَالْعَمَلُ عَلَى هَذَا عِنْدَ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ أَنَّ الْمَرْأَةَ إِذَا اغْتَسَلَتْ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ فَلَمْ تَنْقُضْ شَعْرَهَا أَنَّ ذَلِكَ يُجْزِئُهَا بَعْدَ أَنْ تُفِيضَ الْمَاءَ عَلَى رَأْسِهَا ‏.‏
    Umm Salamah narrated : "I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! I am woman with tight braids on my head, should I undo it to perform Ghusl for Janabah? He said: 'No. It is sufficient that you only pour three scoops of water (with hands held together) over your head, then pour water over the rest of your body, to be purified.'" Or he said: "Then you will be purified."

    أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ، ح وَأَنْبَأَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَةَ، عَنْ بِلاَلٍ، قَالَ رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَمْسَحُ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ وَالْخِمَارِ ‏.‏
    It was narrated that Bilal said: "I saw the Prophet (ﷺ) wiping over the Khuff and the Khimar."

    A head covering not limited to the common usage of "turban" as is clear from the first narration.

  • Sunan al-Darimi – سنن الدارمي – Hadith #104

    أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سُعَادٍ وَكَانَ مَرْضِيًّا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ :" الْمَاءُ مِنْ الْمَاءِ "
    Yahya bin Musa told us, Abdul Razzaq told us, Ibn Jurayj told us, Amr bin Dinar told me, on the authority of Abdul Rahman bin Al-Sa’ib, on the authority of Abd al-Rahman ibn Su’ad, who was a well-known man from the people of Medina, on the authority of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, may God be pleased with him, that the Prophet prayed May God bless him and grant him peace. He said: “Water is from water.”

    حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَغْتَسِلَ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ بَدَأَ فَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُدْخِلَهُمَا الإِنَاءَ ثُمَّ غَسَلَ فَرْجَهُ وَيَتَوَضَّأُ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلاَةِ ثُمَّ يُشَرِّبُ شَعْرَهُ الْمَاءَ ثُمَّ يَحْثِي عَلَى رَأْسِهِ ثَلاَثَ حَثَيَاتٍ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ ‏.‏ وَهُوَ الَّذِي اخْتَارَهُ أَهْلُ الْعِلْمِ فِي الْغُسْلِ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ أَنَّهُ يَتَوَضَّأُ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلاَةِ ثُمَّ يُفْرِغُ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ ثَلاَثَ مَرَّاتٍ ثُمَّ يُفِيضُ الْمَاءَ عَلَى سَائِرِ جَسَدِهِ ثُمَّ يَغْسِلُ قَدَمَيْهِ ‏.‏ وَالْعَمَلُ عَلَى هَذَا عِنْدَ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ وَقَالُوا إِنِ انْغَمَسَ الْجُنُبُ فِي الْمَاءِ وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ أَجْزَأَهُ وَهُوَ قَوْلُ الشَّافِعِيِّ وَأَحْمَدَ وَإِسْحَاقَ ‏.‏
    Aishah narrated: "When AlIah's Messenger wanted to perform Ghusl for Janabah, he would begin by washing his hands before putting them into the vessel. Then he would wash his private area, and perform the Wudu (as one does) for Salat. Then he would wet his hair with the water, then he would pour water over his head with his hands three times."

    أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، وَعُتْبَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الصُّنَابِحِيِّ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏
    "‏ إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ الْعَبْدُ الْمُؤْمِنُ فَتَمَضْمَضَ خَرَجَتِ الْخَطَايَا مِنْ فِيهِ فَإِذَا اسْتَنْثَرَ خَرَجَتِ الْخَطَايَا مِنْ أَنْفِهِ فَإِذَا غَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ خَرَجَتِ الْخَطَايَا مِنْ وَجْهِهِ حَتَّى تَخْرُجَ مِنْ تَحْتِ أَشْفَارِ عَيْنَيْهِ فَإِذَا غَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ خَرَجَتِ الْخَطَايَا مِنْ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى تَخْرُجَ مِنْ تَحْتِ أَظْفَارِ يَدَيْهِ فَإِذَا مَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ خَرَجَتِ الْخَطَايَا مِنْ رَأْسِهِ حَتَّى تَخْرُجَ مِنْ أُذُنَيْهِ فَإِذَا غَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ خَرَجَتِ الْخَطَايَا مِنْ رِجْلَيْهِ حَتَّى تَخْرُجَ مِنْ تَحْتِ أَظْفَارِ رِجْلَيْهِ ثُمَّ كَانَ مَشْيُهُ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ وَصَلاَتُهُ نَافِلَةً لَهُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ قُتَيْبَةُ عَنِ الصُّنَابِحِيِّ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏.‏
    It was narrated from 'Abdullah As-Sunabihi that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "When the believing slave performs Wudu' and rinses his mouth, his sins come out from his mouth. When he sniffs water into his nose and blows it out, his sins come from his nose. When he washes his face, his sins come out from his face, even from beneath his eyelashes. When he washes his hands, his sins come out from his hands, even from beneath his fingernails. When he wipes his head, his sins come out from his head, even from his ears. When washes his feet, his sins come from his feet, even from beneath his toenails. Then his walking to the Masjid and his Salah will earn extra merit for him."

  • Sunan al-Darimi – سنن الدارمي – Hadith #103

    أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاق ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ رَضِي اللَّهُ عَنْهَا : كَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصْنَعُ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ؟، فَقَالَتْ : " كَانَيَتَوَضَّأُ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ، ثُمَّ يَنَامُ "
    Ahmad bin Khalid told us, Muhammad bin Ishaq told us, on the authority of Abdul Rahman bin Al-Aswad, on the authority of his father, he said: I asked Aisha May God be pleased with her: What did the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, do if he wanted to sleep while he was in a state of ritual ablution? She said: “He used to perform ablution.” His ablution is for prayer, then he sleeps.”

    حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ خَالَتِهِ، مَيْمُونَةَ قَالَتْ وَضَعْتُ لِلنَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم غُسْلاً فَاغْتَسَلَ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ فَأَكْفَأَ الإِنَاءَ بِشِمَالِهِ عَلَى يَمِينِهِ فَغَسَلَ كَفَّيْهِ ثُمَّ أَدْخَلَ يَدَهُ فِي الإِنَاءِ فَأَفَاضَ عَلَى فَرْجِهِ ثُمَّ دَلَكَ بِيَدِهِ الْحَائِطَ أَوِ الأَرْضَ ثُمَّ مَضْمَضَ وَاسْتَنْشَقَ وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ وَذِرَاعَيْهِ ثُمَّ أَفَاضَ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ ثَلاَثًا ثُمَّ أَفَاضَ عَلَى سَائِرِ جَسَدِهِ ثُمَّ تَنَحَّى فَغَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ ‏.‏ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ وَجَابِرٍ وَأَبِي سَعِيدٍ وَجُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ وَأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏.‏
    Ibn 'Abbas narrated that his maternal aunt Maimunah said: "I prepared some water for the Prophet to perform Ghusl for Janabah with. So he turned the vessel with his left hand, (pouring some water) over his right. Then he washed his hands. Then he entered his hand into the vessel to pour water over his private area, then he rubbed his hands on the wall, or the ground. Then he rinsed out his mouth and washed his nose by putting water in and blowing it out, and washed his face and forearms. Then he poured water over his head three times, then he poured water over the remainder of his body, then he moved from where he was and washed his feet."

    أَخْبَرَنَا مُجَاهِدُ بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَجْلاَنَ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ تَوَضَّأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَغَرَفَ غَرْفَةً فَمَضْمَضَ وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ثُمَّ غَرَفَ غَرْفَةً فَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثُمَّ غَرَفَ غَرْفَةً فَغَسَلَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى ثُمَّ غَرَفَ غَرْفَةً فَغَسَلَ يَدَهُ الْيُسْرَى ثُمَّ مَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ وَأُذُنَيْهِ بَاطِنِهِمَا بِالسَّبَّاحَتَيْنِ وَظَاهِرِهِمَا بِإِبْهَامَيْهِ ثُمَّ غَرَفَ غَرْفَةً فَغَسَلَ رِجْلَهُ الْيُمْنَى ثُمَّ غَرَفَ غَرْفَةً فَغَسَلَ رِجْلَهُ الْيُسْرَى ‏.‏
    It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) performed Wudu', and he scooped up one handful (of water) and rinsed his mouth and nose. Then he scooped up another handful and washed his face. Then he scooped up another handful and washed his right hand, then another handful and washed his left hand. Then he wiped his head and his ears, the inside with his forefinger and the outside with his thumb. Then he scooped up a handful of water and washed his right foot, and scooped up another handful and washed his left foot."

    أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ : سَأَلَ عُمَرُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ : تُصِيبُنِي الْجَنَابَةُ مِنْ اللَّيْلِ؟ " فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْيَغْسِلَ ذَكَرَهُ، وَيَتَوَضَّأَ، ثُمَّ يَرْقُدَ "
    Ubayd Allah ibn Musa informed us, on the authority of Sufyan, on the authority of Abdullah ibn Dinar, on the authority of Ibn Umar, may God be pleased with him. He said: Umar asked the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. May God bless him and grant him peace. He said: Do I suffer from impurity during the night? “So he ordered him to wash his penis and perform ablution, then lie down.”

    حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، هُوَ الْقُرَشِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرٍ، قَالَ سَأَلْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْمَسْحِ، عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ فَقَالَ السُّنَّةُ يَا ابْنَ أَخِي ‏.‏ قَالَ وَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْمَسْحِ، عَلَى الْعِمَامَةِ فَقَالَ أَمِسَّ الشَّعَرَ الْمَاءَ ‏.‏
    Abu Ubaidah bin Muttammad bin Ammar bin Yasir said: "I asked Jabir bin Abdullah about wiping over the Khuff. He said, 'O my nephew! It is the Sunnah.'" .'"
