أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيل ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاق بْنُ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْهَاشِمِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ عَطِيَّةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ :" لَمْ يَسْلُكْ طَرِيقًا أَوْ لَا يَسْلُكُ طَرِيقًا، فَيَتْبَعُهُ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا عَرَفَ أَنَّهُ قَدْ سَلَكَهُ مِنْ طِيبِ عَرْفِهِ "، أَوْ قَالَ : مِنْ رِيحِ عَرَقِهِ

Malik bin Ismail told us, Ishaq bin Al-Fadl bin Abdul Rahman Al-Hashimi told us, Al-Mughirah bin Atiyya told us, on the authority of Abu Al-Zubair, on the authority of Jabir, may God be pleased with him, that the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him: “He did not follow a path or will not follow a path, so no one follows him except He knew that he had behaved like this because of the goodness of his own hair, or he said: from the smell of his sweat.
