أَخْبَرَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، قَالَ : صَحِبْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ ، فَلَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِحَدِيثٍ، إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ : كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأُتِيَ بِجُمَّارٍ، فَقَالَ :" إِنَّ مِنْ الشَّجَرِ شَجَرًا مِثْلَ الرَّجُلِ الْمُسْلِمِ "، فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَقُولَ : هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ، فَنَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا أَنَا أَصْغَرُ الْقَوْمِ، فَسَكَتُّ، قَالَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : وَدِدْتُ أَنَّكَ قُلْتَ، وَعَلَيَّ كَذَا

Bishr ibn al-Hakam told us, Sufyan told us, on the authority of Ibn Abi Najih, on the authority of Mujahid, who said: I accompanied Ibn Umar, may God be pleased with him, to Medina. I did not hear him narrate a hadith on the authority of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, except that he said: I was with the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace. So a pebbles were brought, and he said: “Among the trees are trees like a Muslim man.” I wanted to say: It is the palm tree, so I looked and saw that it was smaller. The people remained silent. Omar, may God be pleased with him, said: I wish you had said such and such upon me.
