Ahmad bin Asad Abu Asim told us, Yahya bin Yaman told us, on the authority of Sufyan, on the authority of Laith, on the authority of a man, on the authority of Ibn Umar, may God be pleased with him. On his authority, he said: “A man cannot be a scholar so that he does not envy those above him, nor despise those below him, and does not seek a price for his knowledge.”
