أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَسَدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْثَرٌ ، عَنْ بُرْدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ مُوسَى الدِّمَشْقِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ :" لَا تَكُونُ عَالِمًا حَتَّى تَكُونَ مُتَعَلِّمًا، وَلَا تَكُونُ بِالْعِلْمِ عَالِمًا حَتَّى تَكُونَ بِهِ عَامِلًا، وَكَفَى بِكَ إِثْمًا أَنْ لَا تَزَالَ مُخَاصِمًا، وَكَفَى بِكَ إِثْمًا أَنْ لَا تَزَالَ مُمَارِيًا، وَكَفَى بِكَ كَاذِبًا أَنْ لَا تَزَالَ مُحَدِّثًا فِي غَيْرِ ذَاتِ اللَّهِ G "

Ahmad bin Asad told us, Abtar told us, on the authority of Burd bin Sinan, on the authority of Suleiman bin Musa al-Dimashqi, on the authority of Abu Darda, may God be pleased with him. On his authority, he said: “You are not a scholar until you are educated, and you are not a scholar of knowledge until you are a worker of it, and it is sufficient sin for you that you continue to do so.” It is enough of a sin for you to continue to be a quarrel, and it is enough of a liar for you to continue to talk about other than the essence of God.”
