أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، قَالَ :" كَفَى بِالْمَرْءِ عِلْمًا أَنْ يَخْشَى اللَّهَ، وَكَفَى بِالْمَرْءِ جَهْلًا أَنْ يُعْجَبَ بِعِلْمِهِ "، قَالَ : وقَالَ مَسْرُوقٌ : " الْمَرْءُ حَقِيقٌ أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُ مَجَالِسُ يَخْلُو فِيهَا، فَيَذْكُرُ ذُنُوبَهُ، فَيَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى مِنْهَا "

Ahmad bin Abdullah told us, Zaida told us, on the authority of Al-Amash, on the authority of Muslim, on the authority of Masruq, who said: “It is enough for a person to know that He fears God, and it is enough ignorance for a person to be amazed at his knowledge.” He said: Masruq said: “A person has the right to have gatherings where he can be alone. Then he remembers his sins and asks God Almighty for forgiveness for them.”
