أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ شَابُورَ ، سَمِعَ شَهْرَ بْنَ حَوْشَبٍ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ لُقْمَانُ لِابْنِهِ : " يَا بُنَيَّ،لَا تَعَلَّمْ الْعِلْمَ لِتُبَاهِيَ بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ ، أَوْ تُمَارِيَ بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ، وَتُرَائِيَ بِهِ فِي الْمَجَالِسِ، وَلَا تَتْرُكْ الْعِلْمَ زَهَادَةً فِيهِ، وَرَغْبَةً فِي الْجَهَالَةِ، وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَ قَوْمًا يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ، فَاجْلِسْ مَعَهُمْ، إِنْ تَكُنْ عَالِمًا يَنْفَعْكَ عِلْمُكَ، وَإِنْ تَكُنْ جَاهِلًا عَلَّمُوكَ، وَلَعَلَّ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَطَّلِعَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِرَحْمَتِهِ فَيُصِيبَكَ بِهَا مَعَهُمْ، وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَ قَوْمًا لَا يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ فَلَا تَجْلِسْ مَعَهُمْ، إِنْ تَكُنْ عَالِمًا لَمْ يَنْفَعْكَ عِلْمُكَ، وَإِنْ تَكُنْ جَاهِلًا زَادُوكَ غَيًّا أَوْ عِيًّا وَلَعَلَّ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَطَّلِعَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِسَخَطٍ فَيُصِيبَكَ بِهِ مَعَهُمْ "

Muhammad ibn Ahmad informed us, Sufyan informed us, on the authority of Dawud ibn Shapur, he heard Shahr ibn Hawshab saying: Luqman said to his son: “O My son, do not learn knowledge in order to brag about it to the scholars, or compete with the foolish, or show off with it in gatherings, and do not abandon knowledge out of renunciation of it. And out of a desire for ignorance, and if you see a people remembering God, sit with them, if you are knowledgeable, your knowledge will benefit you, and if you are ignorant They taught you, and perhaps God will bestow upon them His mercy and grant you it along with them. And if you see a people who do not remember God, do not sit with them. If you are knowledgeable, your knowledge will be of no use to you, and if you are ignorant, they will increase you in evil or infirmity. Perhaps God will look upon them with wrath and afflict you with it along with them.”
