  • Sahih al-Bukhari – صحيح البخاري – Hadith #491

    حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمِ بْنِ بَزِيعٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شَاذَانُ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي مَيْمُونَةَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا خَرَجَ لِحَاجَتِهِ تَبِعْتُهُ أَنَا وَغُلاَمٌ وَمَعَنَا عُكَّازَةٌ أَوْ عَصًا أَوْ عَنَزَةٌ وَمَعَنَا إِدَاوَةٌ، فَإِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْ حَاجَتِهِ نَاوَلْنَاهُ الإِدَاوَةَ‏.‏

    Narrated Anas Ibn Malik:

    Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) went for answering the call of nature, I and another boy used to go after him with a staff, a stick or a short spear (or stick) and a tumbler of water and when he finished from answering the call of nature we would hand that tumbler of water to him.

    حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ “‏ لاَ تَأْكُلُوا بِالشِّمَالِ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَأْكُلُ بِالشِّمَالِ ‏”‏ ‏.‏

    Jabir b. ‘Abdullah reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) having said: Do not eat with your left hand, for the Satan eats with his left hand.

    وَحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ، – يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ – عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ سَهْلاً، يَقُولُ أَتَى أَبُو أُسَيْدٍ السَّاعِدِيُّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَدَعَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏.‏ بِمِثْلِهِ وَلَمْ يَقُلْ فَلَمَّا أَكَلَ سَقَتْهُ إِيَّاهُ ‏.‏

    Sahl reported that Abu Usaid al-Sa’idi came to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) ; the rest of the hadith is the same, but he did not mention this: when he had eaten (the food) she gave him this to drink”.

    وَحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ، أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَرْحٍ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، أَنَّ قَتَادَةَ بْنَ دِعَامَةَ، حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ، سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، يَقُولُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم نَهَى أَنْ يُخْلَطَ التَّمْرُ وَالزَّهْوُ ثُمَّ يُشْرَبَ وَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ كَانَ عَامَّةَ خُمُورِهِمْ يَوْمَ حُرِّمَتِ الْخَمْرُ ‏.‏

    Anas b. Malik is reported to have said that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) had forbidden to mixture fresh dates and unripe dates and then drinking (the wine prepared out of it), and that was their common intoxicant when liquor was prohibited.

    وَحَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ، وَأَبُو كَامِلٍ – وَاللَّفْظُ لأَبِي كَامِلٍ – قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، قَالَ مَرَّ ابْنُ عُمَرَ بِنَفَرٍ قَدْ نَصَبُوا دَجَاجَةً يَتَرَامَوْنَهَا فَلَمَّا رَأَوُا ابْنَ عُمَرَ تَفَرَّقُوا عَنْهَا ‏.‏ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ مَنْ فَعَلَ هَذَا إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم لَعَنَ مَنْ فَعَلَ هَذَا ‏.‏

    Sa’id b. Jubair reported that Ibn ‘Umar happened to pass by a party of men who had tied a hen and were shooting arrows at it. As soon as they saw Ibn ‘Umar, they scattered from it. Thereupon Ibn Umar said: Who has done this? Verily Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) has invoked curse upon him who does this.

    حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي غَزَاةٍ فَقَالَ ‏ “‏ إِنَّ بِالْمَدِينَةِ لَرِجَالاً مَا سِرْتُمْ مَسِيرًا وَلاَ قَطَعْتُمْ وَادِيًا إِلاَّ كَانُوا مَعَكُمْ حَبَسَهُمُ الْمَرَضُ ‏”‏ ‏.‏

    It has been narrated on the authority of Jabir who said: We were with the Prophet (ﷺ) on an expedition. He said: There are some people in Medina. They are with you whenever you cover a distance or cross a valley. They have been detained by illness.

    وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ بِشْرٍ، عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ، قَالَ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ ‏{‏ لاَ يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ‏}‏ كَلَّمَهُ ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ فَنَزَلَتْ ‏{‏ غَيْرُ أُولِي الضَّرَرِ‏}‏

    It has been narrated on the authority of Bara’ who said: When the Qur’anic verse:” Those who sit (at home) from among mu’min” (iv. 94) was revealed, the son of Umm Maktum spoke to him (the Holy Prophet). (At this). the words:” other than those who have a trouble (illness)” were revealed.

    حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَاطِبٍ الْقُرَشِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ الأَسَدِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم خَرَجَ فَرَأَى قُبَّةً مُشْرِفَةً فَقَالَ ‏”‏ مَا هَذِهِ ‏”‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ لَهُ أَصْحَابُهُ هَذِهِ لِفُلاَنٍ – رَجُلٍ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ – ‏.‏ قَالَ فَسَكَتَ وَحَمَلَهَا فِي نَفْسِهِ حَتَّى إِذَا جَاءَ صَاحِبُهَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يُسَلِّمُ عَلَيْهِ فِي النَّاسِ أَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ صَنَعَ ذَلِكَ مِرَارًا حَتَّى عَرَفَ الرَّجُلُ الْغَضَبَ فِيهِ وَالإِعْرَاضَ عَنْهُ فَشَكَا ذَلِكَ إِلَى أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لأُنْكِرُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏.‏ قَالُوا خَرَجَ فَرَأَى قُبَّتَكَ ‏.‏ قَالَ فَرَجَعَ الرَّجُلُ إِلَى قُبَّتِهِ فَهَدَمَهَا حَتَّى سَوَّاهَا بِالأَرْضِ فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَلَمْ يَرَهَا قَالَ ‏”‏ مَا فَعَلَتِ الْقُبَّةُ ‏”‏ ‏.‏ قَالُوا شَكَا إِلَيْنَا صَاحِبُهَا إِعْرَاضَكَ عَنْهُ فَأَخْبَرْنَاهُ فَهَدَمَهَا فَقَالَ ‏”‏ أَمَا إِنَّ كُلَّ بِنَاءٍ وَبَالٌ عَلَى صَاحِبِهِ إِلاَّ مَا لاَ إِلاَّ مَا لاَ ‏”‏ ‏.‏ يَعْنِي مَا لاَ بُدَّ مِنْهُ ‏.‏

    Narrated Anas ibn Malik: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came out, and on seeing a high-domed building, he said: What is it? His companions replied to him: It belongs to so and so, one of the Ansar. He said: he said nothing but kept the matter in mind. When its owner came and gave him a greeting among the people, he turned away from him. When he had done this several times, the man realised that he was the cause of the anger and the rebuff. So he complained about it to his companions, saying: I swear by Allah that I cannot understand the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). They said: He went out and saw your domed building. So the man returned to it and demolished it, levelling it to the ground. One day the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came out and did not see it. He asked: What has happened to the domed building? They replied: Its owner complained to us about your rebuff, and when we informed him about it, he demolished it. He said: Every building is a misfortune for its owner, except what cannot, except what cannot, meaning except that which is essential.

    حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَابْنُ، بَشَّارٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ بْنَ عَازِبٍ، يَقُولُ لَمَّا صَالَحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَهْلَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ كَتَبَ عَلِيٌّ كِتَابًا بَيْنَهُمْ قَالَ فَكَتَبَ ‏”‏ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏”‏ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ بِنَحْوِ حَدِيثِ مُعَاذٍ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَذْكُرْ فِي الْحَدِيثِ ‏”‏ هَذَا مَا كَاتَبَ عَلَيْهِ ‏”‏ ‏.‏

    It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Ishaq, who heard Bars’ b. Azib say: When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) made peace with the people of Hudaibiya, ‘Ali drew up the agreement between them, and so he wrote: Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah. (This is followed by the same wording as we have in the previous tradition except the omission of the words: This is what he has settled.)

  • Sunan Abu Dawud – Hadith #5215

    حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ لَمَّا جَاءَ أَهْلُ الْيَمَنِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ “‏ قَدْ جَاءَكُمْ أَهْلُ الْيَمَنِ وَهُمْ أَوَّلُ مَنْ جَاءَ بِالْمُصَافَحَةِ ‏”‏ ‏.‏

    Narrated Anas ibn Malik: When the people of the Yemen came, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The people of the Yemen have come to you and they are first to shake hands.
